2.5 Hour Tour. Drive your own 2 man catamaran, while a guide (on his boat) leads you around Fort Clinch, Cumberland Island, Ga and throughout the backwater of Amelia Island seeking wildlife, sea life and a superior boating experience. Adventure Awaits you!

This 2.5 hour tour has it all; Beautiful scenery, wildlife, sea life on some very unique and fast boats. After a brief on how to operate your own boat, this adventure takes you on a river run through some of the most beautiful backwater and marshlands that Amelia has to offer. We're looking for dolphin, sea birds and other sea life along the way. After some really cool boating in the backwater, we stop off on a beautiful island for a little time off the boat. Then it's off to historic Fort Clinch on the tip of Amelia Island to take pictures and hear about the history and events of years past. Back down the Amelia River to the Historic Fernandina Harbor where we started.

Odd Number Parties & Single Riders

In the event you have an odd number party, one person will ride with the tour guide on the lead boat. If you wish to drive the boat as a single, you must pay for both seats.

Can I pay by credit card or cash the day of the tour?

Credit card is the only way to reserve your spot (please call if you plan to pay cash so we may get your credit card on file). 100% refunds given when you cancel outside of 72 hours of your boat tour or for bad weather conditions. We’re sorry, but no refunds if you cancel within 72 hours of the tour, if your late arriving and miss the departure or if you simply “No Show.”

Is there a weight limit for the boats?

Yes, the weight limit is 300 lbs per person for safety reasons.

How many days a week are the tours available?

Please click on the book now button on any page to see our full schedule and availability. Generally we have at least one tour in the morning and one tour in the afternoon with a sunset tour starting at 5:30 pm in the summer. Available 7 days a week.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

We will not go out in rain, dangerous conditions/high winds or when the temperature is below 65 degrees. In the event of bad weather we will try to reschedule you to a different day. If we are not able to reschedule, all monies paid will be refunded. Backwater Cat Adventure does provide rain pants and jacket in the event of rain while on the tour.

Are the boats safe?

The boats are designed not only for fun, but with safety in mind. We designed these boats from the ground up with multiple hours of testing to ensure stability and comfort. We have a perfect safety rating and intend on keeping it that way.

How old do you have to be to drive?

You must be 18 years old with a valid drivers license to drive the boat.

How old do you have to be to ride?

Children 5 years old and up may ride on the boat with an adult. Child life preservers are provided.

Can we bring snacks and other drinks?

We provide bottled water for each boat. You may bring snacks and other drinks. The driver must be under the legal limit for alcohol to navigate the boat.

What if we have an odd number of people like 3 or 5 or 7?

In most circumstances, we put 2 people per boat for the tours (excluding the guide boat). In the event you have an odd number in your party, one person will drive a boat as a single. Whenever possible, two people will be on each boat.

How many people can go on the tour at any one time?

We currently have 11 Custom Backwater Cat boats which can accommodate 18 people however, we have access to a large pontoon boat which will carry up to 6 more people if needed. Please call us for large groups.

Is there a restroom break during the 2.5-hour tour?

Yes, there is a restroom stop about halfway through the tour (the 1 1/2 hour mark).
