“Wow, so much fun!”
Review by roadtripguymd
2.5 hour tour in the back bays of Hitlon Head Island. The new 2 seater Craigcat mini catamarans fly across the water. Tom, our seasoned guide, provided a professional, safe, watercraft experience. Our group had 4 boats following the guide/leader. Tom took pictures that he will email to us. I grinned the whole time it was so much fun. Looks pricey, but it’s the most fun you will ever have.

Back Water Adventure is one of the best attractions on the Island. We enjoyed being able to skim across the waters around the island on a 2-man catamaran. Tom showed us how to operate the catamaran and then guided us while in his own watercraft. He was an excellent tour guide; taking us on a 30 mile excursion to explore areas we would never have seen otherwise. He knows the waterways like the back of his hand! The tour is about 2 1/2 hours long. Bring your camera and sunscreen and enjoy!
“Highlight of Our Trip!”

We recently visited Hilton Head Island for the first time with our two youngest children (daughters ages 13 and 18). We had a wonderful couple of days and when looking for activities to entertain both girls I saw an ad for Backwater Adventure. As our older daughter will be attending the USNA in Annapolis I thought that spending a couple of hours on the water may help us all recover from the stress of the entire college selection process. For once, Dad was totally correct! Hey, it has to happen once every couple of years…. In any case, it was truly the most fun we have had as a family in years! We are not very adventuresome individuals but we had a total blast. The boats are incredibly stable (as was evidenced by doing donuts right at the start of the tour) and as we zipped around the estuary the grins on my kids faces got bigger and bigger. It was worth every dime to see my whole family having such a great time. We even got to see a dolphin fairly close by and were able to figure out which of the absolutely stunning waterfront homes we are planning to buy after we win the Powerball Jackpot. Actually, after looking on Zillow we may need to win two jackpots…. In summary, top marks to this fantastic activity. Have fun and follow the excellent instructions provided by Allen and/or Tom. Plus, they provide photos and videos to participants at no extra charge! What a great service to document your trip!

What happens in the event of bad weather?
We will not go out in rain, dangerous conditions/high winds or when the temperature is below 65 degrees. In the event of bad weather we will try to reschedule you to a different day. If we are not able to reschedule, all monies paid will be refunded.
Are the boats safe?
The boats are designed not only for fun, but with safety in mind. Unlike the Titanic, this boat has high density foam pontoons making it virtually unsinkable. Secondly, they turn in such a way as to never flip over due to turning. All safety eqipment is included and onboard each boat. We teach first time boaters to navigate the boats with great success!
How old do you have to be to drive?
You must be 18 years old with a valid drivers license to drive the boat.
How old do you have to be to ride?
Children 5 years old and up may ride on the boat with an adult. Life preservers must be worn for all children 5 years old to 15 years old.
Can we bring snacks and other drinks?
We provide bottled water for each boat. You may bring snacks and other drinks. The driver must be under the legal limit for alcohol to navigate the boat.
What if we have an odd number of people like 3 or 5 or 7?
2 people must be in each boat that goes out on the tour (excluding the guide boat). In the event you have an odd number in your party, one person will ride with the guide on his boat. There will be opportunities to switch drivers and riders during the tour.
How many people can go on the tour at any one time?
We currently have 11 Craigcat boats which can accommodate 18 people however, we have access to a large pontoon boat which will carry up to 6 more people if needed. Please call us for large groups.
Is there a restroom break during the 2.5-hour tour?
We generally do not stop for a restroom however; there is an emergency stop about halfway through the tour if needed(the 1 1/2 hour mark).
